POLAND

OUR SCHOOL
GIMNZJUM NO 1

Our school is located in Będzin. The history of town  had its start in the Middle Ages.  At that time Będzin used to be a border town between Silesia and Little Poland. The last century means for Będzin very intensive industrial development. It has had very important impact on citizens, their education and professions.
There are nearly 310 students attending our school who represent different social environments. Many families came to Będzin as economical migrants from different regions of Poland.
The project is to act as an incentive for different students. Not only may they be able to get actively involved in some research work during maths lessons but they might also develop some interests in art. We wish to encourage them to make synthesis of their interests.
It is within all teachers’ awareness that students posing educational problems need to become concerned with some activities, which will give them a sense of achievement and success as well as arouse their interest in learning technical subjects and science. We are pleased to inform that the range of activities in our project creates such opportunities.
A lot of our students are very successful in foreign languages and they take part in diverse language competitions and student exchange programmes (with Germany, Hungary and other countries involved into Comenius projects). We are taking on an exciting challenge with lots of necessities of running the project but we are certain that our cooperation within Comenius project will provide our students with some new possibilities and open another door to Europe.
We wish to mention that our school has reach experience in Comenius projects. We successfully struggled to be authors or co-authors of several projects. Foreign language teachers' team  is very creative and open for new ideas. However, these are not only language teachers who are willing to take part in the project but also other qualified teachers are knowledgeable about launching such projects. We are proud of our ICT teacher who has been the coordinator of Comenius projects several times. We also appreciate the commitment of our history teacher who possesses language qualification achieved by participating in international courses organized by Comenius Foundation.
The present project is aimed to activate nearly all schoolteachers ranging from maths and physics teachers, through technical teachers and those who have never had a direct opportunity to be involved in international projects.
